Dons Starting to Click: AFC Wimbledon Ladies, September 2021

D2B is back in the FA Women's National League with our second review of the AFC Wimbledon Ladies' D1SE campaign. August ended with the Dons sat in mid-table, so Kevin Foster's talented squad would need to raise their performance levels during September if they were realistically going to be able to fight their way back into the promotion race...

NWSL: Pacific North West Breakaway (Pt.2)

Here's part two of our NWSL Review for September with just the one game week to wrap up. Portland held firm at the top of the standings, despite defeat to the Red Stars. They were also helped in no small part by Washington Spirit having to concede a 3-0 defeat after failing to meet Covid-19 protocols. This exact same situation arose with OL Reign, helping both Cascadia clubs to pull away from the rest of the pack in their pursuit of the 2021 Regular Season ‘Shield’…

FAWSL Week 3: Round-up

Last season's top four all met during Week 3 with London clubs Arsenal and Chelsea both winning by five-goal margins over their Manchester rivals; Spurs join the Gunners at the top of the WSL with maximum points; Aston Villa remain unbeaten; West Ham got their first home win in over a season's-worth of football; Everton got off the mark against (now) bottom club Birmingham; still no points and no goals for Reading...

FAWSL Week 3: United Reeling as Chelsea hit them for Six…

Defending champions Chelsea romped to a 6-1 victory over Manchester United at the Leigh Sports Village. Fran Kirby scored with less than two minutes on the clock; Pernille Harder followed that up with a superb solo strike in the 24th minute. Sam Kerr delivered a brace either side of United's only goal - from substitute Alessia Russo. Chelsea's subs then added a bit of gloss to the result with Drew Spence and Jessie Fleming slotting goals number five and six...

NWSL: Pacific North West Breakaway (Pt.1)

The National Women's Soccer League has been 'hotting' up as we head into the last month of regular season games. There were three match-days built around an International Break, during which time OL Reign, Chicago and Houston all went unbeaten. Portland held their position at the top of the standings, but OL Reign are hard on their heels as both Cascadia clubs started to pull away from the rest of the pack in their pursuit of the 2021 Shield...

NWSL: Favourites Positioning Themselves at the Halfway Point… (Pt.3)

We’re back in the NWSL for the third and final part of the August review. At one point during the month, Portland had a seven point lead. Then they played in the WICC tournament allowing North Carolina an opportunity to catch up. By the end of the month, though, another team was fast approaching the top of the table and notched their second regular season win over the Thorns in the process...

FAWSL Week 1: Round-up

There were no draws in week one of the Women's Super League. Both Manchester clubs won their opening games with City thrashing Everton at Goodison Park; Arsenal made a bold statement beating London rivals and defending Champions Chelsea at the Emirates; Aston Villa rained on Leicester City's WSL debut, and there were victories for Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton & Hove Albion...

FAWSL Week 1: Ruthless City Lay Down an Early Marker…

Manchester City sent out an opening-weekend warning to all of their title rivals, dismantling Willie Kirk's new-look Everton side at Goodison Park. Summer signings Vicky Losada and 'Bunny' Shaw scored either side of Janine Beckie's low drive to give the visitors a three-goal lead at half time. Steph Houghton converted a trademark free kick midway through the second period. The Toffees ploughed on bravely until the final whistle trying to get a consolation strike on the board, but it just wouldn't happen for them...
